What are the side effects of the hair transplant surgery?

Each bald man dreams to restore his youth and old hair by getting a hair transplant surgery done, but some of them being scared from its side effects. However, the most talks that people hear are just rumors. The fact is that most of these rumors are wrong and issued by ordinary people not doctors or even experts in the field of hair transplant. In this blog, we will mention the most common side effects of the hair transplant surgery.

1-Thinning:

If you have had hair transplant surgery, you may be alarmed to find that the original hair you already had is actually getting thinner. This is a normal post-operative condition and the thickness comes back within a few months after the surgery.

2-Bleeding:

During the follicle extraction process from the donor area (the area between the ears and the top of the neck) using the Micro motor machine, some bleeding may occur from the tiny holes that the machine made, so there is nothing to worry about because this bleeding is temporary and it will only take a few moments for it to stop.

3-Pain:

70 % of patients who have had the hair transplant do not feel any pain after this procedure because drugs such as painkiller pills are given as well. However in rare cases some patients still complain of little pain, they still could use stronger painkillers to stop their pain.

4-Itching:

Itching is one of the most annoying side effects of hair transplant surgery. It usually starts to occur after 3 days of hair transplant and may affect both the donor and implanted area. However, It takes only a few days for it to be gone and one can use antihistamine pills to relieve it.

5-Swelling:

swelling may appear on the fourth day after hair transplant surgery on the forehead or around the eyes. It may take a few days to disappear and sometimes this swelling may affect your vision. To eliminate the swelling as soon as possible you should drink a lot of water and put Cold compresses on it. Also some massage can be useful.

6-Numbness:

The patient usually feels numb after weeks of hair transplantation and this numbness is typically concentrated in the head region. However it is only a temporary side effect so there is nothing to worry about.

7-Hiccups:

5% of the people who have had a hair transplant got hiccups after it. Maybe you consider it worthless but in fact it can be a serious problem for some patients because the patient may not be able to eat or sleep as per usual. if you are one of those who got this problem then consult your doctor for a solution.

8-Infections:

You need to choose the right place for your hair transplantation. By that I mean a Sterile and condusive hospital equipped with the latest technology to avoid any infection during or after your hair transplant surgery. Some doctors recommend to give the patient antibiotic pills before and after operation.

9-Cysts:

Cysts can appear in the areas where hair is being transplanted – also called the recipient area, but they do not usually last more than a few weeks and are rarely more than the size of small pimples.

10-Scarring:

If you have keloid scarring after hair transplant surgery, it is probably because you are genetically inclined to have it. Very infrequently patients do get scarring that takes the form of ridges.
